Fire Advisory

Sunset Point follow Fire bans/Advisories as set by Lac Ste Anne County.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact County Fire Chief Schroeder at 1-866-880-5722

Also note the latest update from North West Fire (the Village) May 8 2018 at 12.45pm:

Good Morning All,

One of the adjacent Forest Protection Area's (Edson) wildfire danger remains at "High" while the other adjacent area (Whitecourt) has moved the risk to "Very High.   After reviewing the risks closer to our communities I note the following concerns:

  • Fine Fuel Moisture Risk:  "High"
  • Initial Spread Risk:  "High"
  • Overall Fire Risk "Very High"

These current risks combined with no real "Soaking" rain in the immediate or extended forecast compels me to recommend a total fire ban in all the communities Onoway Regional Fire Serves.   I recommend that signage be installed at the entrance of each community + notification provided on town / village websites + the bans be placed on albertafirebans.ca.  I do not recommend the total ban come off until there has been a deep soaking rain (usually two consecutive days of full-on rain) and the overall wildfire danger drops to "Moderate.

If you have any questions or comments, call me anytime,
